# Sports

By: Michael

I am passionate about sports because I have been playing sports since I was about two or three years old.I have played all kinds of sports like soccer, basketball, football, wrestling, and baseball.I am really good at football and wrestling because I mostly play these sports now. I always play with my brother and cousins. My cousin’s brother and I are very competitive. We play football for the Miners and wrestle for Sunkist. Sunkist is at A.S.U. Most of the Olympic wrestlers come from there. I play football here in A.J. and most of the Maricopa want me on there team. I am a quarterback and and a safety. I am to try every sport so I can say I did that.

## Making Inferences

18 09 2012

Hello my 6th grade students and followers!

This week we are making inferences in reading. We know that an inference is when you combine evidence from your reading (words the author uses) with your schema (what you already know-prior knowledge) to make a conclusion. Watch the video below to learn more about inference.

Making inferences can be hard.  Sometimes the clues don’t add up like we think.

Make an inference about the short film below by telling me an obserservation from the film(something you know), a question (something you wonder), and an inference (something you think).  Use EVIDENCE BASED TERMS to support your inference.  Examples of evidence based terms are…

• The boy was sad BECAUSE his dog ran away.
• Sally loved the ocean. FOR INSTANCE, she moved to a house overlooking the ocean.
• Henry loves whales.  FOR EXAMPLE, he often reads stories about them.
• The force of the wind was very strong. I know because THE AUTHOR STATED that the wind could shatter a window.
• ACCORDING TO THE TEXT, the purpose of a robot is to do a job.
• FROM THE READING I KNOW THAT Jupiter is the largest planet in our solor system.

What It Takes To Be An Elite At Nerf

By: Ben

My favorite sport is Nerf. Nerf takes patience, skills, and good hiding spots. First thing you need to do to win is bullets, make sure you have enough bullets to win. Next you need to find a good hiding spot like a bush, a shed, or a toy box. After that you should get extra guns just in case if one gun gets jammed you have a backup plan. So when your playing you want to be the quickest so you don’t get out first.

If you run out of bullets you would have to go back and grab them. If you don’t find a good hiding spot you will get shot from above, below, or behind.  If you don’t grab extra guns your first gun might get jammed and all you’ll have is a Nerf battle ax, or tomahawk. That’s how you be an elite at Nerf.

FOOTBALL

By: Manny

I’m going to convey to you about what it takes to be an elite football player. To be an elite football player it takes six things. First is humility which is when your and recognize your own faults. Second is love which is when you care for your teammates. Third is integrity which is when honest and stick to your principles. Fourth is faith have faith in your teammates. Last of all is excellence you act like an professional and don’t yell at your teammates. And that’s how to be an elite team player but just for you at a possession is to eat good and work hard at it everyday.

## Internet Safety

i-Safe Assembly

By: Maegan

Today at our school (DVES) we had an assembly. It was an i-safe assembly. We learned about the importance of internet safety. We were taught to be careful about what we post online and who we talk to.

At the assembly we were told a story about a thirteen year old girl, Megan, she accepted a friend request online from a boy named Josh. They started talking every day until one day, Josh started saying really mean things to Megan. After a while of him doing this, he said the worst thing of all, “Why don’t you do all of us a favor and kill yourself.”, and that’s exactly what she did.

Megan committed suicide because of cyber-bullying. At the assembly we were also taught that cyber-bullying is illegal in some states. People don’t take cyber-bullying seriously, but it’s a big deal. No one should have to go through it.

Cyber-bullying

By: Alexus

Hi, I’m Alexus and I will be talking about cyber-bullying. First I will talk about why you shouldn’t be a cyber-bully. Then I will discuss how it hurts people. Lastly, I will go over some of the consequences of cyber-bullying.

There are two different types of bullying, cyber-bullying and just plain bullying. Cyber-bullying is when you mentally attack someone and use words to hurt them. Bullying is when you physically hurt someone or pick on them all the time. You should never be a cyber-bully, or any bully for that matter. I don’t care if people are short or funny looking, you should keep bad comments to yourself, and you should never try to use power to force someone to do something they don’t want to.

If you want to know how cyber-bullying can hurt then listen up. Some people make fake Facebook and become friends with some stranger or someone they don’t like, then they try to become “B.F.F.’s” with them. Then they start bullying them, not just any bullying, cyber-bullying. Megan Miller killed herself because she accepted a friend on Facebook and fell in love with him, but he was a fake. He was actually a she and she was a cyber-bully. She told Megan to go and kill herself, and Megan did.

If you cyber-bully, you could get into a lot of trouble. You could get arrested and end up in a juvenile detention center. Or WORSE, if they kill themselves, you could get tried as an adult and end up in prison for the rest of your life. Then you would never get to see your mom or dad or any family member at all. You would get your freedom taken away and live in a very lonely place.

Cyber-bullying is a crime and you will get into a lot of trouble. It really hurts peoples feelings too. You should never be any kind of bully, but especially not a cyber-bully.

Here are some suggestions from our class about what you could do if you are being cyber-bullied.
