Hello! I am Shannon Young from Crazy in Kindergarten. I teach Kindergarten at Peralta Trail Elementary School, just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. This will be my 9th year teaching. I spent my first 5 years in first grade teaching homeless and risk students downtown Phoenix. I then moved to AJUSD and spent a year in Kindergarten at Superstition Mountain Elementary. When SMES closed I moved over to Peralta Trail Elementary. This past school year I left the classroom to teach K-6 ELL at both Four Peaks Elementary and Desert Vista Elementary. I am so excited to be back for the 2017-2018 school year in kindergarten! Kindergarten is definitely where my heart is. I always said I would never leave first grade. I had absolutely NO interest in teaching anything else. Just the slight thought of it would make my anxiety sky rocket! When I found out about the option for me to teach kindergarten all I could think was HECK NO!!! I believed all kindergarten teachers were either saints or complete crazies!!! Little did I know I would turn into one of those said “crazies” and completely fall in love with it.
I am originally from Toronto, Canada. I hold an Early Childhood Degree from Canadore College and a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from Nipissing University in Northern Ontario, Canada. I also studied abroad at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia where I received my Masters in Elementary Education. I have a strong background in teaching homeless and at risk kids in both Auckland, New Zealand and downtown Phoenix.
A few of my favorite things:
Starbucks, PaperMate Flair pens, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, cookies, french fries, Thai food, Italian food, Indian food…ok so food in general! HA! Chip & Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper, Hobby Lobby and Joanns.
When I’m not teaching you’ll find me at the gym, in the kitchen baking something yummy, crafting, sewing, or watching hockey! I am married to an incredible fellow teacher. Mr. Young teaches 2nd grade here at PTES! Together we have a furry little daughter, Asia, our Siamese cat who looks exactly like Skippyjon Jones! She loves to “help” me get new school activities ready for the kiddos. She has to be right in middle of things at all time.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
