It’s been such a long time since we updated the blog. A lot has been happening since our last post. We have added a couple new students to our class, lost a couple and also made a few changes with staff members in the kindergarten department. Things are starting to calm down a bit so i’m going to be making sure our blog gets updated regularly.
This post is going to have a mix of all kids of fun things that have gone on in our class the past few months. I wasn’t going to post these, but I think it’s important to share and celebrate the exciting things that go on in our class daily…even if it’s a little late.
We had lots of exciting things go on in September. First we started our monthly theme by studying Apples. We taste tested apples, did apple investigations, researched them, and even made apple sauce! Mmmmm…was it ever good!
We invited our Grandparents, and Great Grandparents in to share some time with us for Grandparents Day. This was tough for me since I had recently lost my beloved Grampa, but was so rewarding seeing the bond between them and the kids.
Kindergarten was in charge of organizing our September STEAM night. We went with the theme of Safety and Community Helpers. We combined this with learning about story elements. Our 5th grade buddies came over to help us build structures to protect the 3 Little Pigs from the Big Bad Wolf. The kiddos had such a great time and learned about some important design elements to building structures. For the STEAM event we displayed our homes. We had the Air Ambulance land in the school field. They did tours and the kids got to learn about their importance. The Fire Department also helped us out with our Egg Drop Challenge!
We had some incredible students named as Student’s of the Month. These students have worked really hard and have shown leadership inside and outside of our classroom. Nice job Cameron and Natalynn! We’re so proud of you.
Thanksgiving is a huge standard we have to cover in Kindergarten. We had been learning about how the Pilgrims came over on the Mayflower ship to find new land. We watched Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving and then recreated his Thanksgiving feast. Half of the kindergarten students were Native Americans and the other half were Pilgrims. Each group brought their offering of bread, butter, pretzels, jellybeans and popcorn. We ended our day by trying to make butter. We quickly realized that its a lot of work and life is much easier now a days.
This past week we played a few math games to strengthen our skills. We worked on a reindeer addition game where the kids had to roll dice, add them up and remove that number from the number time. The first person to take all their counters off was the winner! In recent weeks we’ve also been playing a 100 chart game. We each get a couple numbers and have to work together as a team to put it together. We’ve been working on numbers 1-50 to start. Each time we try to beat our previous time.
Last week was our flag ceremony that the kids have been working so hard preparing for. Our kidders sang 3 amazing songs! Christmas in the West, Jingle Bells and Feliz Navidad. I couldn’t be more proud of them! They did an incredible job. Videos coming soon.
