Edublog Nominations!

We are so excited, and honored, to have our class blog be nominated for the 2014 Edublog Awards, in the Best Class Blog category. What’s even more exciting, is that our neighbor class, and great friends, Mrs. Moore’s class, is nominated too!

Thank you everyone who nominated us, and thank you to everyone who feels the urge to vote. We are honored!

Year of Lights – Christmas Card Exchange

Dear Readers,

Every year, Ms. Myers’ class participates in a global project, hosted by Jen Wagner of “Projects By Jen”. Teachers from all over the world sign up to take part in a good will exchange between students. Every class is instructed to create 30 cards which are mailed out to the other schools, and to one community service organization. This year, the theme for all of our cards is Lights! Our class has begun our cards by writing a friendly letter that we will include in the envelope. Today, we are starting the actual creation part of the cards! We’re excited because we get to be creative, and because we are looking forward to hearing from new connections around the world. After we receive the cards, we hope to Skype with some of the classes on our list. It would be great to keep that connection going for other projects.

Here’s the map of the classrooms we’re connecting with through this project:

Have you ever been to any of these places? Yesterday, we took a quick look at them to see what it’s like where they live. A lot of them would be surprised at the desert in our very own backyard!

We’ll update you as we receive the cards. We can’t wait!

Your friends,

Pumpkin Seed Project – by Roxy

Dear Readers,

My class was doing a pumpkin project. We had to get in  six groups because there were six pumpkins. So after that, my class got a paper that was asking questions about what you think about the pumpkin. The questions were what did we estimate for the number of seeds in the pumpkin. After we each did our own estimate, we had to find the range of guesses for everyone in our group. Also, we had to measure the circumference of the pumpkin. So after that we had to pick up the pumpkins top and count the seeds, but  we had to count in 10`s 0r by anything you want to count by.When we did that we sat in our desks and see who got the most pumpkin seeds.

Have you done anything like a pumpkin seed project?Do you think you want to do anything like this?

Fire Safety Day – by Natalie

Dear readers,
Yesterday we had a fire safety day. That meant there was a person named Tina. 20141104_100634She told us all about safety. She told us that we had to have a thing that I have in each of the rooms of our home, it was an alarm. The fire alarm makes a really loud noise when there is smoke.
Do you have a fire alarm?
20141104_102858We also went in a fire truck, and we also saw fire fighters. There was I think 3 or 4 of them. We went inside of the fire truck and there were 3 seats,a hose, ladder, chainsaw, and they had other stuff too. then we asked questions. They answered all of them. Then we got a paper that we had to draw our house and put the meeting spot on there and show our family where the meeting spot is, so we’re ready if there is a fire.
Have you ever seen inside of a fire truck? What questions would you ask a fire fighter?

Your friend,

Elenor showed us her snake and a rat. here are a  couple facts.Rats eat crickets, barriers, and grain. Also snakes are carnivores. So are trantulas. Trantulas have an exoskeleton.
