2018 New Year’s Resolutions

Here are my New Year Resolutions for 2018.  I will wake up everyday to brush my teeth.  I will achieve my goal by waking up everyday a little earlier.  Goal 2 is to read books in school and at home.  I will achieve my goal by reading books everyday.  My third goal is behavior and to be calm.  I will achieve my goal by not eating sugar.  Those are my New Year Resolutions for 2018 to be a better person. I have three resolutions for 2018.  My first goal is to get faster in my reading and remember everything I’ve read.  I will read books more and read everyday.  My next goal is to remember all of my math I’ve learned this year.  I will practice all my multiplication and division.  My last goal is to help my mom in the house and to make my bed every morning.  I will listen to my mom and do what she tells me.  These are all of my goals for 2018. This is how I will get better this year.  So my first goal is to score in soccer and to help my friends score goals too.  I will do that by asking my dad to practice with me outside.  My second goal is to practice spelling.  My mom is very good at it.  Which is why I will bring my spelling test and practice with my mom.  My last goal is to make my bed.  I will make my bed every morning.  These are the changes I will make for 2018. Tonto National Monument Field Trip

We went on a field trip to Tonto National Monument.  First, we got on the bus.  We saw great things on the way.   It takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there. When we got there we saw Ranger Jen.  Everyone started screaming.  It took a little bit to start moving.   They decided Ms. Brokaw’s class was going to climb the mountain first. We saw cactus and we even saw the other class from way above on the mountains.  When we arrived at the top, there was a 700 year old building.  We could not touch the walls.  It is very important to them.  They asked us if we could find hand prints on walls, or a fire pit.  We saw a few of them both.  They were in flat ground.  There was a small hole in the ground for a fire pit.  Then we went back down and I almost fell down the hill.  A lot of people were slow because there legs were hurting.  Daniel, Ernesto, and I were acting like drama. When we reached the ground Ranger Jen took us and gave us papers.  There were five plants she showed us what they are used for. Then we went back to school and went home. By Christian

December 20th, 2017 we went to Tonto National Monument.  The first thing we did was we go in the classroom from recess, well morning recess.  Then we put our backpacks down. Next we put our lunch boxes, if we had one, in a basket that Ms. Brokaw had.  After we went to the bathroom or tried to go to the bathroom.  Also we got on the bus with Mrs. Moore’s classroom.  The bus ride was 1 hour and 45 minutes.  That took a long time. Then we finally got there.  The first thing we saw when we got there was Roosevelt Lake.  Then we got off the bus and saw Ranger Jen.  She let us take a bathroom break. she also let us look through a microscope.  After that a ranger named Ranger Will came.  Before I forget Ranger Jen told Mrs. Moore and Ms. Brokaw to pick who went with Ranger Jen or Ranger Will first.  My class got to go with Ranger Will.  What Ranger will did was, we went hiking up for so long every one in my class was being dramatic.  Then after we went on the hike we had lunch.  Oh yeah, my mom also came. I almost forgot to mention my mom.  After lunch we switched.  So then Mrs. Moore went with Ranger Will and we went with Ranger Jen.  What we did with Ranger Jen was we did like a pop quiz.  After we did the quiz we went down and sat on the benches that Ranger Jen had at her work.  We had to draw our favorite thing we learned there.  What I drew was a cactus.  Finally we got done. Then we talked for a little and went to the bathroom again.  Most importantly we got back to the bus.  It was a great day!  By Adeline 


Animal Habitat Science Fair

December 7th we had a science fair.  In case you don’t know what a science fair is, I will tell you.  A science fair is a thing where you have to design something or create something.  What we did for the science fair was, we picked an animal that the teacher had to approve.  The second thing we did for the science fair was, we created our box with the animals we picked out.  The third thing we did was, we painted our boxes however we wanted to paint them.  The fourth thing we did was, we started to put glitter and little animal figures.  The fifth thing we did for the science fair was, we brought back our boxes that we worked on at home on Wednesday and we waited for the next day to come.  Then it was finally Thursday and we went to the cafeteria.  This lady put down tables so we could put our projects on the table.  Then we had to wait for Mrs. Moore’s class to come to the cafeteria then we could start.  The last thing we did for our project was we waited for the judges to come.  The judges were Mr.Bravo, Mr.Stern, and Chief Kelly.  Then they picked who got to win.  The kids that won in our class were Cody, Ruth,and Emily.  After they announced the winners we got our projects and left to the playground to play until the bell rang then we left.  By Adeline 


Hi my name is Eli.  What I did to my box was I got a box and I got materials for my box.  I got 3 toilet paper rolls.  Before I glued it, I painted my sky light blue and my grass green.  I did like little hills for my animal then I put a little pond in the middle of my jungle.  Then I put my trees glued down my box then we decorated our boxes.  Then we waited for Thursday because Thursday was our science fair.  That was when Chief Kelly, Mr.Bravo, and Mr.Stern came.  They were the judges.  Where we went is our cafeteria and we voted for whose is the best.  Well, the judges were the ones that voted, not us. While they were voting some other grades came to see our projects.  By Eli 

Phoenix Art Museum

Today we went to the art museum. It took 45 minutes to get there. Also there was famous art, like George Washington.  We walked for a hour, it was fun. Also our friend Adeline, her mom came.  The tour guide was from the art museum.  She had the teacher walk down a hallway and every step she got looked smaller.  What we did is we had our fingers and measured the teacher.  People say it was funny but also she got so tiny. We played a game of I Spy. We would get a piece of paper and there was a lot of glass boxes and we had to find the stuff that was on the paper. I found a few things but she said there were statutes. So I looked and I found two of them. They were in hidden doors that were open. They were right in the hallway. One box was flicking its lights. It scared us. By Christian


This week we did a lot of fun stuff.  All of the fourth graders went on a field trip to the Phoenix Art Museum. It is a place where there are different rooms.  Each room has art stuff and different kind of drawings in the rooms.  After 3 hours we left to go back to school and went straight to lunch.  We had tour guides that led us through the museum. We went to the museum at 8:30.A.M.  After lunch we started math in the afternoon until the end of the day and then it will be a normal day on Thursday.  By Sara

Today at the Phoenix Art Museum we looked at amazing art that was cool!!! We looked at a piece of art that is called fairy flies. After that we looked at a art made out of trash, it was really cool! Then we looked at  fashion art, it was cool. Then we looked at art called hot mess.  My favorite is the fairy lights because it likes your in a black hole with lights.  That is what we did. By Gwen 

We went to the Phoenix Art  Museum.  I got to look at pictures.  They were so cool.  I liked them so much.  I had a tour guide.  I liked the lights they had there.  They are so cool.  The drive took long time it was long to me.  We had groups.  It was fun that we went there.  I’m glad we went, so glad.  I had lots of fun you should go there one day. Dia de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a when people celebrate people who died in Mexico.  You can celebrate it even if you don’t live in Mexico.  Mrs Gibson is a Mexican teacher at our school.  She came with her children and we talked about what you do for Day of the Dead.  Then we got a paper of a sugar skull and colored it.  We got Day of the Dead bread from Mexico.  It is way better than American bread.  The bread had colored candy sprinkles on it.  It was very good.  By Eli

November 2nd was Dia de los Muertos.  Mrs. Gibson told us all about Dia de los Muertos.  She said that Dia de los Muertos is a holiday that is celebrated in Mexico and sometimes in the United States.  Mrs. Gibson gave us bread of Dia de los Muertos and a paper of a sugar skull to color.  Mrs. Gibson talked about La Catrina, a skeleton that has a fancy dress.  The poor people made La Catrina to make fun of the rich people. Mad Scientist Day

This week we did Mad Scientist Day.  That means on Halloween we are doing science all day.  We did 6 science experiments.  Some of them were elephant toothpaste, dissolving pumpkins, soda geyser, and an animal experiment.  We had a lot of fun.  We even had some other classes come and their teacher is Mrs. Moore.  It was all on a Tuesday.  Oh, we also did the glowing hands project.  It is when you put on a glove and put some Vaseline over the glove, but only use one finger to spread the Vaseline on one side of the glove or it is messy.  We had fun and we had fun with the other class too.  By Sara and Dulce

On Halloween we did Mad Scientist Day.  On that day we did 6 experiments.  Here are some of the experiments we did soda geyser, elephant toothpaste, and dissolving pumpkins.  for the soda geyser we put mints into the soda.  For the elephant toothpaste we mixed chemicals together.  Last for the dissolving pumpkins we put pumpkin candy into vinegar, cooking oil, water and baking soda, and water.  Then we watched what happened.  By Shyenne

Finch Adaptations

We did an experiment.  We tested out adaptations that finches have to survive.  The materials were chopsticks, tweezers, forks, straws, and tooth picks.  Those were like the beak of the finch.  We had one minute with each tool.  We had to try and take beans, rice, and pasta out of a bowl.  It taught us how the birds use their beaks to eat.  Some beaks are small, long, sharp, and stubby on the finch.  We learned about Charles Darwin and how he came up with adaptations because of the finches.  By Farrah

We did a finch experiment.  It is when you use tools to pick up spaghetti noodles (worms), beans (bugs), and rice (seeds).  Then we used different tools, forks, straws, tweezers, and chopsticks, for the different beaks of the birds.  That was our experiment.  By Gwen

Global Cardboard Challenge

One thing we did in 4th grade before we left for fall break was Cardboard Day!! We did it on a Thursday.  It was exciting!  A lot of people were creative.  Cody made the funniest game.  He made one where he would put a sign on the box that said free candy.  After the person opened the box to get free candy he would pop out of the box and scare them.  It was really funny.  Everyone could invite their family members.  A lot of people came! What we did for Cardboard Day was we made an arcade with cardboard.  We made \everything out of cardboard and tape.  We got to play other people’s games.  Our parents even came to play our games.  When we made the game it was very fun.  By Ernesto



On Thursday we made an arcade.  It was made out of cardboard.  We had the whole day to build it and it was really fun.  My friend helped me make mine. I got some candy and I shared it with my friend.  Only two classes made arcades.  It was us and Mrs. Moore’s class.  We went to lunch and came back.  It was almost done when we came back.  We cleaned up and got to go to the other class to play.  They came to my classroom too.  We played.  Kid’s families came to play too.  They were really happy.  It was really fun to play but it was also hard.  When it is hard you should not give up.  That is why my friend helped me and I helped her.  That is what we did for Cardboard Day. International Peace Day

This week was International Peace Day.  That is when you celebrate peace.  We made some peace pinwheels.  That is were you color a piece of paper and make a pinwheel.  We put them outside in our 4th grade garden.  Another thing we did for Peace Day was a peace packet.  We got to write on our packets how we were going to spread peace.  We did more activities in the packet too.  The last thing we did for International Peace Day was we did a sidewalk chalk peace path.  We got to draw pictures and write on the sidewalk about peace.  That was fun!  Mrs. Moore’s class joined us.  We got a little messy with the chalk.  There were a lot of pictures out on the sidewalk.  By Adeline

For Peace Day we did chalk writing on a peace path.  The peace path was on the side walk.  We got to write something nice to make this school look nice.  We wrote famous quotes about peace.  We did a peace packet.  It had work, like always, but it was fun because it had a comic that you made your own.  There was coloring and other stuff too.  We did a peace pinwheel.  We got to put them outside.  It was windy and they worked.  By Alexis

We did a Skype about Peace Day.  We Skyped with Alaska.  The other class had a hyper doc to show us.  They hyper doc had videos and pictures.  We talked about how we can be kind and not have any fighting.  We talked about what peace means to you.  The other class from Alaska showed us posters and books the students made.  Mrs. Moore’s class joined us for the Skype.  Peace Day is on September 21st, so don’t forget to do something kind on Peace Day! We had a peace Skype yesterday.  It was with Alaska.  It was fun.  They showed up about peace for them and a video about peace too.  It was cool.  Also they talked to us about peace a lot.  I had fun, everyone did.  By Alley

OREO Challenge

Today we did the OREO Stacking Challenge.  First, Ms. Brokaw explained what we were doing and she put us into groups.  Then, she gave out Oreo cookies.  We each got two tries to stack the Oreo’s as high as we could.  We started the OREO Challenge.  We got a paper that has all the questions on it.  Ms. Brokaw had a list on the paper to see who got the most Oreo’s in a stack.  We went back to our seats to write down our answers.  We went back to the carpet and Ms. Brokaw called our names to stack the Oreo’s again.  Sara won!  It was so much fun today!  By Emily R

We did the OREO stacking challenge to see how high we could stack Oreo cookies. . We has to write on a piece of paper our guess of how many we could stack.  We had two tries.  At the end we figured out who stacked the highest.  When you stack you can only use one hand.  Then we came in the back of the classroom so we could try to see who could stack the highest in the whole class.  It was just for fun.  You should try to do this at home too.  By Ernesto
