International Dot DAY~

Today we celebrated International Dot Day in the 6th grade.  Our two classes participated and showed our creativity…to the max! We first read the book, “The Dot” by: Peter H. Reynolds and discussed the meaning behind the story.  Then we got to surf the web to see what other classes across the U.S. have created in previous school years! We saw some awesome ideas and got our minds racing on what to start our “dot” as (but that was just the beginning).

Students then each received an index card to write down the steps for their project.  They had to FIRST draw their picture which represented their dot or dot(s).  After they added color and detail to their drawing and art work it was time to create a story to match their picture! This was definitely the fun part in 6th grade, since we have so many creative writers!

Students wrote fiction and non-fiction writing pieces and made sure their work was presentable. It was then time for the best part…to present! We love to get up in front of our peers and share our stories that we wrote.  Students are respectful to others as they present their work to the class.  We had a great day expressing ourselves!!

6C won the contest for wearing the most dots in class! Congrats~ Check out the pictures below from our “polka-dotted” day 🙂
