## Archive for Learning

I live in Arizona, in the USA. I’m going to tell you about my state seal.

If you look in the picture you can see miner, fields, the orchards, on the right side there is cattle, and behind the mountains there’s a sun rising. These are all the five Cs in our state seal.

If you are wondering what the miner means, it means he mines for metal. The metal is copper. The fields give us cotton, and cotton makes clothes. The orchards grow fruit. The fruit makes us grow and be healthy. On the right side there is cows, and the cows is the cattle, which gives us milk and meat. The sun rising behind the hills gives us sunlight.

Arizona State Seal from Wikipedia and Public Domain

Different state seals looks very different than others. For example, the California one looks different than the Arizona one because it has different features. Arizona has five Cs.

What do you like about the Arizona State Seal?

Why do you think the state seals have different features?

Hour of Code
Posted on December 10, 2013 at 8:06 pm by and

Did you know that it is Code Week? I am doing more than an hour of code because it’s just fun and it’s creative and it’s educational. It’s learning. I like it!

First you start with Angry Birds, and when you get to level 13 or 14 it changes to Plants v Zombies. Then when you complete it you go to level two. Each level has 20 rounds of Blockly puzzles.

Tip: Sometimes I got frustrated because it was my first time because I said turn right, but it turned left. I didn’t understand that my right was different from the Angry Bird’s right. But what I did was get my stuffed animal and my mommy asked, which one is my right eye, then she asked which one is my animal’s right eye, so then I could see it had to turn left (which was my right).

To brush my teeth, I made my mommy talk to me in code so I got there. It’s really true! It was fun!

What are you doing for Hour of Code?

If you are doing Hour of Code, do you like it?

Have you played with Blockly and Hour of Code yet?

Do you think it is learning and fun?

Playing with Blockly
Posted on September 22, 2013 at 5:31 pm by and

I like learning and being creative. When school is out, I get to learn and do lots of new things. I played with Blockly the other night. Have you ever played with Blockly?

Blockly is a game that lets you make shapes in different colors and there’s lots of learning. I learned how to do multiplication and addition to make it draw.

I’ll tell you how to do it in my AudioBoo. Click on play to listen to my AudioBoo to learn how to do it.

Do you want to try it yourself? Click here to go to the link and press the red “Run Program” to watch it draw what I programmed it to draw.

I learned about Blockly because my mom was listening to David Wees share about it online, and I wanted to try.

What do you like about Blockly?

Have you created something on Blockly before? If so, can you share it with me?

What things do you like to create?

I like the tens frame because it helps me make a ten and then plus the other number. It makes it easy for me. Watch my video:

Have you ever tried a tens frame?

Does it make it easy for you?

I plant lots of seeds at my Grandma and Grandpa’s house. They are farmers and grow lots of plants. I love planting too.

I really like this video about a seed too. My mom says I can’t put it on my blog because it has a copyright. So you should click on it to watch it.

Did you ever plant a seed?
Did you get to see it grow?
Do you plant with your Grandma or family?

I am learning about ants at school. I learned that they walk and walk, dig and dig, and lift and lift. They work together as a team. They also can bite people, so look out for ants!

My mom found this fun and interactive site about ants.

Here’s a video from National Geographic about ants. I liked this one.

What can ants do?
Where do they live?
What do you know about ants?

It’s Read Across America Week at my school. We learned new words, and we are reading in reading groups. Every day we are doing something special.

Tomorrow, we can dress up for Cat in the Hat Day by wearing red, white and black. I want my mom to draw whiskers on my face.

I started asking everyone at home if they like to read. Now I want to know if you do. Will you answer my question by voting?

On Friday, I get to dress as my favorite character. I need help because I like so many.

Who should I dress up as?
>Curious George Stays with Em

Our class mascot is Curious George. Every weekend George gets to go home with someone from class because he can’t stay at school all by himself. The Principal picked my name this time, so George got to stay with me!

I’ll tell you a little about it on my Audioboo:

Look at my Capzles story pictures and play the video on my on the last slide to see what we did this weekend.

I had so much fun with George! My favorite was going to the Arizona Sea Life Aquarium, but they had the big shark exhibit and turtle exhibit closed. I told George it would be okay because I’ll go again some time and make a video for him to watch on my blog.

What do you think George’s favorite was?
If George went to your house, what would he say was his favorite?

Student Blogging Challenge #5

My old favorite color was pink. My new favorite color is purple. Then my next favorite is blue. Then the next is pink again. Here’s my favorite pictures of my favorite color.

I made a video to show how I got my pictures, but there is one part that can be easier. Can you figure out which part?

Do you have an easier way to find pictures?
