Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Sunday, March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day!

On St. Patrick’s Day, Everyone around the world dresses up in green.  Some people say that if you don’t wear green on St. Patrick’s Day then you will get pinched!

Another thing to know about St. Patrick’s Day is that the four leafed clover is good luck if you find one.  But according to the Irish, the three-leaf clover was considered their symbol, not the four-leaf clover.

Even though St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday, you don’t give each other presents.  You can if you like, or if it’s just your families tradition.  My family never gave each other presents on St. Patrick’s Day, but that’s just what we do.  And it’s not bad if you give each other presents or even if you don’t, it’s just a fun holiday.

Have you ever found a four-leaf clover?

By the way, DON’T FORGET TO WEAR GREEN ON ST. PATRICK’S DAY!

Read Across America Week!!!!

On Feb. 25th, 2013, Read Across America Week started.  It ended on March 1st.  During that week in school, we learned all about Dr.Seuss.  On Monday, in honor of Dr.Seuss, PTES’s  principle read Fox In Socks to the whole school!!  We also wore crazy or mismatched socks.  On Tuesday each of the grades, ( K-6th grade),  wore a certain color.  Our color, 4th grade, was yellow.  Most of fourth grade wore yellow, and only a few people didn’t wear any.  It was also The Lorax day.  The Lorax day was so the kids could wear the Lorax’s mustache.  On Wednesday, it was wacky Wednesday.  One of Dr.Seuss’s books is called: ” Wacky Wednesday!”, so on Wednesday we were dressed in wacky clothes and made our hair look wacky as well.  On Thursday, we dressed up as The Cat In The Hat for Cat In The Hat day.  Then later that night from 6:00-7:00 at Peralta Trail Elementary School, PTES had a read under the stars night for all of the families that wanted to come.  Lots of kids and parents were there.  On Friday, the last day of Read Across America Week, the students dressed up like their favorite book character, and could participate in the book parade.  The book parade was a lot of fun!  Lots of kids either dressed up as their favorite book character, made a parade float on their favorite book or both!  There was also a reading fair.  A reading fair is like a science fair, but instead of the poster being a science project, its a poster with facts about the book you are reading.  You don’t have to make it be your favorite book like the book parade or dressing up like a book character.  But if you want your reading fair poster to be about your favorite book you can.  Oh, and on Tuesday, ( The Lorax Day), I brought in the movie about the Lorax for fourth grade to watch.  It was a very fun week for me!  And some exciting news!  Dr.Seuss’s BIRTHDAY was on March 2nd! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS FOR READING! -Clairebobcat

Did you have a Read Across America Week?

If so, what did you do?

Thanksgiving is almost here!

The American holiday Thanksgiving is on November 22nd  and November 22nd is almost here!  Thanksgiving is a time to come together and be thankful for everything you have.  You usually have a big turkey or a juicy ham.  But sometimes we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving.

Most of the decorations you use for Thanksgiving is a little turkey figure or  a  pumpkin.   I know that a pumpkin is used as a  Halloween decoration but the pumpkin is in the cornucopia.

In the cornucopia there can be a variety of things.  Some of the things were like grapes, squash, pumpkin, corn (of course), and apples.  You can also put flowers in it if you wanted to.  Making a cornucopia is also a fun activity to do for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving isn’t a holiday for getting presents.  Its a holiday for being thankful for your presents.  Thanks for reading!

  •          Do you celebrate Thanksgiving?

  •          If so, what do you do?

Easter!

As you all know Easter was April eight. So I’m a little late. It is a great holiday when you celebrate by hiding eggs or having a great feast for Easter dinner. But you can do more than just do those things. You can throw great parties if you like, it’s your choice. Other people don’t even celebrate Easter. My family celebrates, by hiding eggs and having dinner together. We also hard boil eggs and paint them with paint and put stickers on them as well. People also get Easter baskets and cool prizes. Theres also the Easter Bunny that does all these cool things for you. Lots of people don’t belive in the Easter Bunny, but I do. He may be real, but he may not. So don’t give your hopes up!

Do you celebrate Easter?

If so, what do you do?

Do you belive in the Easter Bunny?

My Dream Job!

When I grow up my dream job is to be a famous gymnast! I am  in gymnastics now and I’m loving it a lot. I know that being famous isn’t really a job, but being famous is a lot of work. Especially when I’m doing gymnastics. Gymnastics requires a lot of strength  in your body. When I’m in my gymnastics class, I always get tired out, even when I’m just jumping up and down. So, that means that even if you’re really strong, you can’t do everything.

I go to Angela’s Flip Zone to take my gymnastics class. At Angela’s Flip Zone, there are different levels of gymnastics. I’m in level three there out  of six levels. So I’m halfway in all of the levels. Anyways you should really check it out. If you want you can look them up on Google to learn more.

I am going to be performing at the Olympics soon if  I keep practicing hard. If you have a dream job then you should practice hard to do your best. Practice makes perfect right? If you are going for a job that’s really big, then I suggest that you start practicing for that job.

When you have a dream job, it doesn’t mean you have to do it when you grow up. So if you have trouble getting your dream job, then don’t go looking for another opening in the job subject. You could if you wanted to but it could change your life. So if you stick with the job you want, you could end up in a situation like moving.

Even though these things happen you can still dream!

What are you going to be when you grow up?

Weekly Poem

Now, every week there will be a new poem. None of the poems will be the same. If any of the poems are somehow related, then I would like for you to please comment.

Here is the poem for the week:

     Roses are red.

     Violets are blue.

But not only monkeys will live in a zoo.

That was a poem that I changed up a little. It was originally written by William Shakespeare, a poetry writer and play composer. That was the poem of the week!

      Can you write a poem?

My state habitat

I live in a place with lots of cacti and desert animals.  It’s really fun to live here in Arizona, even though the weather is really hot.  The weather here is even a little hot in the winter.  Arizona is a great place to live with lots of fun zoos and parks to go to. There are a lot of mountains to hike like Silly Mountain or the Superstition Mountain. There’s also Papago Park, a little, but big, mountain that you and your family can climb. Anyways, Arizona is called the Grand Canyon state. Oh and by the way we just celebrated Arizona’s hundredth birthday!  It’s called the Grand Canyon state because the Grand Canyon is located here in Arizona.

This is the beautiful Grand Canyon!

The animals of Arizona are very amazing as well as all of the mountains. Arizona’s state animal is the ringtail cat. I was surprised when I saw our state animal. Anyway, another popular animal is the diamondback rattlesnake. You will see them all around Arizona as well as other snakes. When I say as well as other snakes I mean other types of snakes like cobras or other rattlesnakes.

This is a western diamondback rattlesnake!

Like I said earlier, we have a lot of cacti. Our state cactus is the saguaro cactus. Arizona’s state flower is the blossom from the saguaro cacti, so there is a connection there. Anyways, as I was saying before there is a lot of cacti. Almost everywhere you look you will see at least four or five cacti around you. There are so many cacti here that if you didn’t see a cactus somewhere you would be sad.

Arizona is a great place to live with great friends. I’m glad to live here and if you live here as well, you should be glad too.

What is your state flower?

What is your state animal?
