Pumpkin Seed Count

In honor of Halloween this past week, our class did another Project by Jen (same website that we got our O.R.E.O. Stacking project from). This was a delightful project that got our estimation skills in gear. We had to estimate the weight, circumference and how many seeds would be in the pumpkin.

Then we got use to tools that Mrs. Avery set up around the room to actual weigh and check the circumference. The hardest part was counting all the seeds because there were so many!

Our average number of seeds was 440 seeds, our pumpkin was ab out 20 inches in circumference and it weighed 4 lbs.

Here is a video to show us at work!

(And, it was also Orange, You Glad You’re Drug Free? Day as apart of our Red Ribbon Spirit Week. So you’ll notice a lot of orange and not just on the pumpkins!)

If I had three pumpkins that all contained 440 seeds, how many seeds would I have?
If I had 5 pumpkins that all contained 440 seeds, how many seeds would I have?
